Can you believe October is already here?! Time flies when you're having fun learning! This week we learned about Fire Safety and Community Helpers. We learned what to do in the event of a fire school or at home. The children practiced Stop, Drop, and Roll if our clothes catch on fire and we learned how to crawl under the smoke to get to safety. We did a practice fire drill in our classroom so that the children know where to go whenever we do fire drills here at the center. The children asked me "What happens if we do not have a house phone, but Mommy and Daddy have cell phones?" This is a great question because the majority of us do not have house phones, but cell phones so I told the children that they should ask their mommy and daddy what to do in the event of an emergency where they need to dial 911. We talked about community helpers, where they work, and what they do. We practiced writing the letter Cc this week and practiced writing Community Helper words.

We practiced counting using 1:1 correspondence with "gold coins" and we counted up to 30. We practiced writing pirate words and traced lines. The children have been playing basketball outside and took turns putting the ball in the basket. It was a fun week to learn about pirates!!

Our theme for this week is Fall! We are so excited that it is Fall because it is hoodie season and the weather will be cooler. We read books, shared our favorite things about Fall and we watched short videos (they were less than 3 minutes long) about Fall. We also talked about Johnny Appleseed and we learned interesting things. Did you know that he carried apple seeds in his pocket? We made a Johnny Appleseed art project! The children enjoyed learning about Johnny Appleseed. We practiced tracing lines and practicing our cutting skills. I started a Word Wall for the letter Aa and the children were able to tell me what starts with the letter such as apple, alligator, airplane, etc. My goal is to get them to recognize more words in preparation for Kindergarten.
Now that Fall is here, please check your child's cubby to see if they have extra warm clothes. We want to make sure they are warm for when we go outside to play. Also, I want to remind you to make sure you take your nap bags home every Friday! If you have any questions, please feel free to speak to Ms. Michelle.

We had fun this week learning Colors and Shapes! We did so many different things to name We did a Science experiment where we put M & M's in a circle and poured water over them. We learned that the water slowly melted the colors off the M & M's! It was so neat to see the colors go into the middle of the plate! We talked about the colors and shapes we see outside and we made a house using shapes. The children practiced writing letters on a dry erase board with dry erase markers and they were excited to use them! The children have asked me if we can do more Science experiments and they want to use the dry erase markers again. I have told that we will do more experiments and they will be able to use dry erase markers again. They are so excited!

Our theme this week is Friends. We talked about how we can be kind to your friends and that we keep our hands on our body, not on our friends. We talked about how we can be helpful whether it be at home or at school. The children watched a short video, “Sesame Street Teaches Friendship”. We drew ourselves on paper people. Our project for the month is Apples. We “painted” apples using dabbers. We measured ourselves using apples! We had a short, but very busy week at school!

This week, we have been learning about Rainforest/Jungle. We learned about different animals and where they come from. We looked at pictures of what a rainforest and a jungle looks like and talked about how they are the same/different. We made tree frogs, panda bears, and toucans in Art. Did you know that Anacodas can weigh as much as a person?! The children used different utensils to create their art projects. For example, we used a fork to make the panda bear's fur. They were surprised that they could use forks in Art! We alternated days for the children to listen to rainforest and jungle music at nap time because it was soothing. We had so much fun learning about Rainforest and Jungle!

Welcome to the brand new Pre-K 9-3 classroom! This week we got to know each other by asking what is your name and we talked about what we wanted to learn about. We went over the rules for the classroom, playing on the patio, and playground. We explored our new room and played in different areas. We talked about how our classroom is different than other rooms because they have a shorter day and there’s only one teacher which is Ms. Michelle.
