We are so intrigued with how our 5 senses work. We heard a story all about the brain and how it helps us with our senses. It sends a message back to our hand, ear, mouth, eyes, or nose to tell us if we like/dislike what the object is and what it is. This was a simple way to explain to the class and they really liked the book. We also did scenarios to see how many senses we use at different times of the day. The children talked about how we use all of our senses at a meal time, but only one senses when going to sleep. Yesterday, we used kool-aid powder as a way to "smell" our art. We also listened to the sounds around us with our eyes shut. At the math table, we used a die with different body parts on it. When you landed on a specific body part, you added that part to the Mr. Potato Head (and got to talk about what sense it used). At the language table, we are learning all about our friends as we explain, "What I like to see, smell, hear, taste, and touch in the spring. We are really getting anxious for warmer weather, can you tell? Tomorrow, we will get blindfolded and see if we can identify the magnetic letters in our hands or if we can tell what is happening when we can't use our eyes.
