This week we have been talking about winter. We have learned a few new songs such as “Five little snowman” and “dashing through the snow”. The children have been very excited and we are working on these songs as group. We also discussed at group the importance and safety of keeping our gloves and hats on outside. We also talked about snow and ice safety this week helping the children to understand walking feet when it’s icy out.
On Monday for art the children used glue to glue on Qtips to light blue paper resulting in making snowflakes. At the math table they worked on using tongs to pick up and count snowballs (cotton balls) and put them into winter buckets. At the manipulative table they used their fingers to peel back winter stickers and place them onto paper.
On Tuesday for art the children they used green paint and silver glitter mixed together and used a lofa to spread around on red paper. At the math table we had mitten cut outs all different colors and matched them with colored bears. At the manipulative table they used tongs to pick up snowman erasers and place them into buckets.
On Wednesday for art the children used glue to build a snowman adding scarf, carrot nose, eyes and buttons with stick arms. At the manipulative table they used hot chocolate Matts and placed marshmallows on the Matts while counting. At the math table we used scissors to cut white paper to make them into snowflakes.
On Thursday for art the children will use Styrofoam cups and glues marshmallows on to make “Igloos”. At the math table we will have different shapes on snowmen they can use our big colored shapes to match. At the manipulative table we used our trays with glitter and snowman pieces on their trays and sticks for a sensory activity.
On Friday for art the children will make a “polar Bear” out of a white paper plate and cut outs. At the math table the children will use Snowflakes on sticks to put into winter buckets while counting. At the manipulative table we are going to make fake snow and explore some on our trays.
