Out of this World - Pre-School

This week was all about space and all the things in space. On Monday in art the children made their own spaceships by gluing torn paper to the outside of a Styrofoam bowl and gluing the bowl to paper. In math the children engaged in an outer space bingo game and they did very well look for the pictures they needed to find on their board. Our language activity was to look for rhyming stars hidden around the room. Once the stars were found the children named what picture was on their star to listen for whose star had the same rhyming word. Tuesday in art the children painted with saran wrap mixing red and yellow together, a great sensory experience. In math the children wanted to play the bingo game again, so we did, and we incorporated language into it to have the children listen to the description of the picture they needed to find on their board. Wednesday in art the children worked with oil pastels and in language the children worked on letter identification by tossing a bean bag onto a plate, and then naming the letter on the plate. Today in art the children painted coffee filters, and in language they wrote on paper…while laying on their back under the table!! In math the children built a rocket with sugar cubes by rolling a die to determine how many to add each turn, and then count how many altogether. Tomorrow In science the children will work with mini marshmallows and toothpicks to create their own constellations, another great fine motor and sensory experience. In art the children will create a moon with paint, and in language they will dictate what they would bring if they went to space. In math the children will sort letters by font type.
